Question: Punishing Children for Parents' Wrongs?

Is it just me, or is this an example of a person's descendents being punished for their parent's wrongdoings? Given, there are examples of God saying he would do this: Exodus 20:5, Exodus 34:7, Numbers 14:18, Deuteronomy 5:9, and Jeremiah 32:18 are ones I found. But why? Is that okay? What do you think?
