"Each one of these people of faith died not yet having in hand what was promised, but still believing. "
This verse really hit me in a new way this morning. Maybe it's The Message translation. God's heroes of faith began moving before they saw why, if ever. Noah - his friends and neighbors must have thought he was an idiot. But his faith determined his actions, and he saw why years later. Moses - had a true faith that I admire. God promised, Moses went. He never saw his descendants outnumber the stars, but God told him and he believed.
How many times have I asked God to show me proof that I am doing something worthwhile in His Kingdom? Yet these faithful persevered knowing that their obedience to God was the only thing that mattered.
"They saw it way off in the distance, waved their greeting, and accepted the fact that they were transients in this world."
God, forgive me for the times I've asked you to show me the fruit of my labor. Help me to be faith-filled and focused more on obedience than seeing results. Teach me that my labor is worthy, and I don't need proof or validation to continue serving you.
