31 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
This passage just strengthens me. First we see how exactly God has total control, "Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat." See what has happened here, Satan has no control over any situation in the Beloved's life with out God permission. Just like in Job 1:9-11.
9 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”
Satan has no power with out God removing that hedge of protection. God truly is in control! The next aspect of this passage, we see Christ as the intercessor! Which is exactly His position, sitting at the right hand making intercession for us day and night. Also at Calvary, on the cross He made intercession for us physically and spiritually standing in the gap for us!!
Jesus then tells Peter that he will make some mistakes and have to repent and come back. But that act of coming back he will have a stronger testimony and be able to be better used!! Jesus tells him that hard times are coming and that he will fall but from that position of having your nose in the dirt comes humility, and the pleasure of pressing in. Peter also has the joy of remembering walking on water and the fact that Jesus is never too far to save you!!
I really needed this scripture today. The devil has definitely desired to sift us as wheat, the question is are we going to press in when that comes and we are no longer on the mountain? Sometimes yes I am, but at others I definitely need the Holy Spirit to remind me of these things and the promises in God's precious Word!!
Thank you Holy Spirit, Heavenly Father, and our Wonderful Savior!!
