a prison mentality
One of the interesting things about this scripture is that Paul not only tells believers to remember those who are in prison and are mistreated but remember them as if your where together with them. I have never been in prison before but I have met with and made visits to those who have been anywhere from 3 months to 10 years serving time. One of the things that they have in common is that they depend and turn to God because of their circumstance. Also, their focus is on Him because they are isolated from the outside world. I think that there is more to this scripture than just not forgetting our brothers who are incarcerated or suffering. We have a circumstance and that is that we live this fallen world with our fallen nature. What would it look like if we as believers stood together every day with our focus completely on God living as though we don’t belong to this world? What if we lived with a similar mindset of those who are in prison or suffering?
