Ruth Sunday msg from Ric Olsen at The Beacon
Naomi returning to God's promises. prob: needs family to care for her. has nothing to offer to lighten their burden. Not a lot of good options. Ruth, daughter in law, converts to the God of Israel and embraces the promises of God. They were dirt poor. Ruth became a gleaner of what was left behind after crops reaped.
Land was tied to the promises of God. The closest living kin had first dibs to purchase land to keep it in the family. This person became the kinsman redeemer. In other parts of scripture God is refered to as the kinsman redeemer who provides system of justice and care.
Ruth meets cousin of her husband, Boaz, and he steps up to provide kinsman redeemer role. To clear the way for redeeming the land and marrying Ruth he had to propose this to the closest kin. The clostest kin refused which made Boaz the next in line and rightful kinsman Redeemer.
This is a link in the Redemption process. Jesus was human. One of us. He could die for us. Angels are not human. They have no relative. they can have no redeemer. Once they have turned against God there is to turning back. there is no possibility without a kinsman redeemer.
