Jealousy
Joseph was a 17 year old spoiled brat. There's no question about that, the bible is pretty clear about the favoritism Jacob showed Joseph. But that doesn't excuse his 10 brothers desire to kill him over a few dreams and a fancy robe. If you reflect on their situation, the bottom line is that they were jealous of Joseph. They wanted what he had - the attention and favor of their father, the benefits that come from wearing a special robe, and potentially the honor that comes from being spoken to by God through his dreams. Their jealousy eventually got the best of them, to the point that they wanted to kill their own brother. When we allow our jealous feelings to control us we don't think or act rationally. Jealousy will destroy our families if we let it get out of control. The sin of jealousy has consequences that are destructive. Don't let jealousy control you. As soon as you sense it creeping into your life have the courage to admit it and bless or encourage the other person instead of hating them.
