Do we choose to serve God?

That depends on whom we are asking. The unbeliever must choose. The believer does not, they are either in obedience or disobedience. A study to show ourselves approved, let us examine this teaching. "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve;" Clearly this does not require us as believers to "choose" to serve the Lord UNLESS " if it seem evil unto us". It is extremely important that this passage be taught in context, especially reflecting on the prior verse. Reading verse "14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served..." This is a command. Therefore if we as believer have choice and can choose to serve the Lord, we have strayed from the faith and must seek repentance because we are clearly in disobedience.
