Why were they afraid?

I've read the account of David and Goliath numerous times but something hit me today when I read this verse.
It made me wonder to myself.
"Why were they afraid?"
Yeah, OK Goliath is a big guy at 9' 9" tall and the massive spear he carried around but one large man against thousands of Israeli soldiers? He may be deadly one on one but they could easily take him by shear numbers.
It didn't make sense to me? There really isn't any logical reason why they'd be afraid of him? And then it hit me. They were afraid of Goliath because of what he was, a Nephilim. He was a living breathing demonic hybrid. Add to that the fact that Goliath's brother Lahmi was of the same species and no wonder Israel was afraid of an enemy that was using demonically spawned beings to wage war. Their fear was of the supernatural context.
But David knew the God of Israel was greater than the fallen beings driving the Philistines and when David took Goliath out another thing happened that doesn't make sense either and that is the Philistine army took off. Why? They only lost one man. That doesn't make any sense either?
However in context of a demonic hybrid and the seemingly advantage they thought they had with Goliath being a supernatural being and David a mere boy slaying them they quickly realize the God of Israel reigns supreme and that scared the Philistines.
A great resource to fully understand the back story of the ages can be found in understand the "Divine Council" view of scripture. I've posted the link to Michael Heiser web site that goes into it more and lends a lot of light into verses such as this one.
