"But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit," - the antidote to heretical, passion-driven, authority-hating life is faith and prayer.
"keep yourselves in the love of God," - Don't forget your love of God and fall into love of self.
"waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life." - There is a mercy that leads to eternal life. Thank you, God, for the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ. Only darkness and eternal death is awaiting those who live heretically, but life forever is for those who prove they belong to Jesus by maintaining faith, prayer, love of God.
"And have mercy on those who doubt;" - Even though you should hold on to faith, do not condemn those who doubt. There are evildoers out there attempting to - if possible - steal then over to the side of rebellion and sensuality. Have mercy on them, even as God has had mercy on you, and don't let them fall into the trap.
"save others by snatching them out of the fire;" - Help them. Care for them. Attempt to draw them back to the truth of God and away from their own lustful desires.
"to others show mercy with fear," - Even as we show mercy and care for people, we must do so with fear of the Lord at the forefront of our minds. We cannot forget that God does not condone sin, even though he forgives it.
"hating even the garment stained by the flesh." - We need to throw off everything that even touches sin, that has the leanings of our sinfulness.
