Winning The Fight With Prayer

Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. Joshua selected some men for the battle and Moses went to the top of the hill and prayed while the battle went on. As long as Moses hands were up in the air to God, Israel overcame the enemy, but when his hands got weary and tired, the Amalekites overcame Israel.

There is a lot to be said about a consistent prayer life. All of us know that we lose the edge in pressing forward, overcoming the battles when we fail to spend time in prayer. Jesus says, "Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41

Aaron and Hur realized Moses was getting weary and joined the fight of praying. They came along side of their leader and held up his hands. They stood with him in prayer, it was obvious to everyone that the victory would soon be won.

There are many lessons that can be learned through this battle in the Old Testament.  This story shows us that:

Praying is not easy, its hard work. Moses hands got weary in praying for the victory. The enemy didn't let up in the fight. Joshua stayed in the fight while Moses stayed on the mountain. His actions to pray would soon pay off.

Praying through your problems is paramount. Moses realized the importance of praying until the victory was won. Too many times we give up in praying before we see the victory. It's easy to give in to discouragement and defeat.

Praying with other prayer warriors is powerful. None of us should take on this fight without the support of others. Bring along those who know how to persevere until the victory is won. Many like the disciples in the garden of Gethsemane fell asleep before the battle was won.

Praying brings Memorable Victories. Moses declares that God is Jehovah Nissi, meaning "God my Banner." This banner represented their victory. We have a banner over us today that says, "We are winners, we are more than conquers, we are over-comers through Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 40:31, "They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."

Without prayer all of us are weak and will lose the battles of life. But with prayer, were no different than Moses and Joshua who overcame in the valley of Rephidim. Cry out to God in your battle today; He is no respecter of persons. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to him and they are safe. Proverbs 18:10
