Don't be Ridiculous!

Scripture:

33 "Don't be ridiculous!" Saul replied. "There's no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You're only a boy, and he's been a man of war since his youth."
34 But David persisted.

David from the outset was a man of faith. This giant, this Philistine was seemingly from outside appearances too big an obstacle for someone like David who's years were few and size was small in comparison with Goliath.

However David was persistent. He had faith beyond what human eyes could see. But his faith was also not "pie in the sky". It was boosted by his previous victories. Though in others eyes small compared to killing Goliath, David saw through the eyes of victory already.

He persisted in telling Saul about his victories over lions and bears. Explaining that he had victory over these animals, even using just clubs and his bare hands.

But he concludes his case by giving the full glory to God for his prior victories. "37 The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!""

David gave glory to God for the victories over the lion and bear, and because of that his faith in God was planted on solid ground. It wasn't faith in himself.

But David still had to step out, he had to physically decide to fight Goliath.

At first he was given the Saul's armour, when he was putting it on initially he may not have even thought there would be an issue. He was taking the journey, prepared to fight the way they others fought, but with faith that God would be victorious.

But God had other plans for David. He wanted to provide the strategy. The strategy came from God, but it also came about because other strategies, "the world's strategy" didn't work for David. The armour didn't fit, it didn't "feel right".

Instead David picked up 5 small stones and put them in his Shepard's bag. Armed with only his staff and his sling he went forward to fight Goliath.

As he went to fight Goliath he stated. "This is the Lord's battle, and He will give you to us."

God wants us to stand as soldiers in His battles. As we step forward knowing that this situation we are in is God's battle, and that He has already won the victory, all we need to know is, what are the weapons he had given us? They may not be the normal "weapon's of the world". They may not be the swords, spears and armour. They may be 5 small stones.

What are our 5 small stones?
