Alice in Wonderland
What is written here is in contrast to our world which seems much like the Alice in the scene with the Mad Hatter. Indeed, many sit at the table and those sipping from their cups are in a state of delusion. In many respects, this is happening to the church as well. Major Christian church denominations are abandoning the truth of the scriptures and yielding to socially accepted norms on fundamental issues.
This passage gently reminds us of reality. The bible speaks clearly 'This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. '
We are lost in our own world. Many follow the white rabbit. Wars and rumors of wars, economic instability, speculations on morality without foundation and now shifting definitions of family and marriage that threaten social structure.
