Work Smarter, Not Harder
Scripture: 17 "Moses' father-in-law replied, "What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone."
Observation: Moses father in law came along side Moses and understood where he was coming from, "They greeted each other and then went into the tent. 8 Moses told his father-in-law about everything the LORD had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel's sake and about all the hardships they had met along the way and how the LORD had saved them." Ex 18:7-8.
He had an understanding of the history of the situation and the calling that was placed on Moses. Jethro understood the responsibility and the enormity of the task before Moses. Because Jethro understood this position he was able to speak directly into Moses 'work' life and give timely advice.
Ex 18:17 "What you are doing is not good." Jethro was able to make a suggestion that saved Moses from certain burn out. Trying to take care of the needs of some many people was a huge and impossible task. Jethro suggested that there be godly leaders appointed that could look after and serve the peoples needs as a judge. "That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. "
Wow. God sent Jethro at the right time to save Moses from a nervous break down.
Prayer - Thank you Lord that you are a practical God. You send people into our lives to give us advice at the exact time that we need it. Lord help us to be as open and willing to listen as Moses was and to save us from ourselves. I do like to think that I can do it all but Lord you have sent leaders that are capable and ready and willing to help share the load. Help me to empower them to take up and share the burden and calling today. Amen
