Gift - dorea/dorema and charisma
Why does Paul seem to use two different words for "gift"?
5:15 But the CHARISMA is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the DOREA by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.
5:16 The DOREMA is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the CHARISMA arose from many transgressions resulting in justification.
5:17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the DOREA of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
Dorea (through the rest of NT) seems to be used in reference to a generic gift. Charisma seems to be connected to grace and a better rendering is "free gift".
Specifically in verse 16 both are used for seemingly the same object. Maybe I am digging too far in the "weeds" but why the emphasis?
This will be a work in progress ... more to come ...
