'How the king rejoices in your strength, O Lord!' - I'm finding myself asking who the king is? I am planning on looking at this chronologically to find out but...
Perhaps I'm the king (small 'k') and this Psalm is actually a victory cry over my own life. Taking the position of a king, me and the Holy Spirit overcome, take authority and win.
Psalm 21 (My version)
How I rejoice in Your strength, O Lord!
I shout with joy because You have given me victory.
You have given me my heart's desire;
You have withheld nothing from me.
You welcomed me back with success and prosperity.
You placed a crown of finest gold on my head.
I asked You to preserve my life,
(I gave it to You, I surrender to You)
and You granted my request.
The days of my life stretch on forever. (Salvation)
Your victory brings me great honour, (for all You've done)
and You have clothed me with splendor and majesty.
You have endowed me with eternal blessings
and given me the joy of your presence.
I trust in you
Your unfailing love, Most High will keep me from stumbling.
Together we take captive of our enemies.
Your strong right hand seizes the power of sin.
You throw them in a flaming furnace when I call on Your name.
You consume them in Your anger; fire devours them.
You will remove them from my life and cut off their ability to reproduce within me.
Although temptation comes, they never succeed.
Sin turns and runs from me when they catch a glimpse of You.
I call on You O' God, I pray for an increase of Your power in my life.
I praise and celebrate because in You, I'm victorious.
