Notes from Sunday morning service at Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids Pastor Vitarelli
Nicodemus saw that Jesus as man was living a life controlled by the Spirit hence the reason for the visit Nicodemus tells Jesus he doesn't get it and Jesus response to Nicodemus is you are a student of history and the law why don't you understand this? See vs 10 Notice Jesus's use of we (plural), in vs 11 Nicodemus started the conversation as speaking for the Pharisees and Jesus responding as part of Trinity After vs 9 dialog becomes a monolog
Vs 13 only one with valid testimony about heaven is the Son of Man
Numbers 21:1-9 tells the story of the snake lifted on high God punished the people of Israel justly for their sin and the people repented, and God provided salvation
Nicodemus would have understood this reference
Nicodemus problem: he viewed Jesus as a teacher not from God
Reference to Jesus being lifted up see Isaiah 52:13-15
John 12:27-33
Vs 15 what does eternal life mean? SEE Colossians 3:5-6
Nicodemus probably left this conversation frustrated but shows up elsewhere see John 7:44-51 and referenced as one of them and also with Joseph of Arimathea in John 19:39
