What are we accomplishing?

This is a cool passage! This is the first time we hear the chief priests and Pharisees make sense. They ask the question, "What are we accomplishing?"
I ask you and myself, what are we accomplishing? We walk around day in and day out taking the form the Potter gave us (Rom 9:21). What is it that we are doing to accomplish his purpose? We have the ability to see life change in relationships in all directions. Are we skeptical? Are we celebratory? Are we His instruments of life change?
These religious guys were torn. He gives sight to a blind guy, life to a rotten dead guy? What the!? Jesus had truly brought it. Now he has proven that he controls the beginning and the end. Sight to the blind (spiritually blind) and control over life and death (spiritual and physical death).
This council of leaders seems to be going in a direction toward repentance and belief in these miracles. They were pretty oblivious signs of someone powerful at work. Maybe this guy truly is the Son of God? But in comes the "Big Guy", Caiaphas the high priest. Verse 49 brings the whole council to order. For once they are calling themselves idiots so Jesus can take a breather. Caiaphas says, "You know nothing at all!". How cool is that? However, Caiaphas did not speak this truth on his own, he was under the influence of the Holy Spirit v51. I asked myself as I read this, “why would God change the direction of this conversation?” Read ahead to what Paul wrote in Romans 9:21. He speaks of God saying to Pharaoh in scripture: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth"
That was it! We see The Potter carefully and skillfully carve out His instruments to achieve His purpose, to display His power over sin once and for all. This meeting turns from a potential come to Jesus moment to it’s time to kill him official death sentence. That was God’s purpose for Caiaphas.
What is our purpose? Are we watching, are we hindering, or are we actively participating in displaying the power of God to others in the form of life change? I don’t know about you, but I want at my exit interview for this life to be considered a noble purpose clay pot. No more sitting on the side lines letting everyone else do the work. No more nay saying when I hear of life change. I want to be an instrument of that life change.
Lord, give me your heart. Let everything I do bring you glory as I boast in nothing of my own. Use me today as an instrument of life change in some way. You are in control of all circumstances. Nothing has ever surprised you. Defeat my enemies. Take my life from me if it means I am in the center of your will. Let what I accomplish be pleasing to you Father.
