Work Series, part 1

Genesis 1 - work is a blessing. We were made so that we can rule the world. God the creator, starts the story and was working (creating the world). We were created in His image... A worker.

Genesis 2 - because of man's sin, the relationship we have with the earth was cursed... Painful toil.

Vocation vs occupation.

Vocation - work that fits you, helps others and glorifies God
Occupation - the job that gives you a paycheck

"Good works"
- implies there is wok that us not good
- most people think of good work as something related to church work. Paul doesn't define what these good works are. We are all called to do different good works... And it does not have to be in church.

We don't eat a bowl of salt. Salt is best scattered. Same as good work... it is best when spread around in all sorts of ways and places.

Two lies:
1. Work is a means to an end. (money, leisure, rest, retirement, etc). The lie is that we work to live. The truth is that we live to work. The question is, what work?
2. The sacred/secular divide. There are some things that matter to God and some that don't. Mission work and spiritual work is good and plumbing or entrepreneurship isn't. That's not true. All of life is spiritual. All of life matters to God. God wants to be involved in every minute of your day.

"Spiritual" doesn't even exist in the old testament or Hebrew language. Because all of life is spiritual. There was no need for that word because there is nothing that isn't spiritual (or that doesn't matter to God).

Would you ever ask Jesus, "How's your spiritual life?" There is no such thing. All of his life is spiritual. Everything matters to God.

If we segment our life into spiritual and non-spiritual... What if God wanted to join you in ALL of your life? In all those areas you designated as "non-spiritual?"

What if every single minute of your day is an opportunity to glorify God? To be the person that God wants you to be?
