pass it on

I find it in interesting that in this chapter there are 4 kings in the history of Israel mentioned, one with his mother mention who did ‘evil’ in before God. Another with grandmother mentioned who did ‘right’ before the Lord and two other with no parent mentioned who both did ‘evil’ before the Lord. Aside from the Jewish tradition of mentioning lineage, I can’t help but think the role of influence or lack thereof was passed on to these kings who were leading the people. We don’t know from this passage of Asa’s mother died but we do know his father (King Abijah) did what was right before the Lord before he died. We do however see that his grandmother must have still been that influence in his life. So not only did he have his father as a Godly influence but his grandmother was still alive reminding him teaching him and making sure that he did just as his father did and honored God with his position of influence. This is such a great reminder to me that influence makes a difference. How I live my life and what I pass on to the next generation will make a bigger difference that I will perhaps ever realize. God help me to pass on your qualities your principles and way of doing life to those who you have allowed me to influence in my life.
