Romans 1:13 - It Don't Come Easy!
I don't think there's much doubt that we tend to idealize not just the Apostles, but all the New Testament Christians and churches. I mean after all, God spoke right to Paul, so how hard could it have been for him to know what to do and how to do it?
Well according to this verse, apparently it was plenty hard enough (don't forget about Acts 16:6-10! They didn't always get it right the first time!).
I think it's helpful to note that Paul faced the same kind of every day frustrations to his plans that we do. He made travel plans by faith, and then had to change them for one reason or another. Yet in it all and through it all, God was working. His plan was unfolding, even though Paul might not have seen it in the moment.
We ought to be grateful Paul didn't get to Rome until after he wrote this letter, because otherwise we almost certainly wouldn't have this letter! Just think how much poorer the church would be without the great book of Romans.
So, sometimes frustrated plans and desires can be good, when we trust God to work everything out the way He knows they ought to be!
