Church Nursery Duty

We were in the car going to the church service yesterday, but this time we were asked to work in the nursery.

Some history here. My wife and I have three grown daughters and 7 grandchildren. For many years she was the coordinator for this type of task and she remembers well calling people every week to ask them to serve. Often times people would say no or beg to be excused and it would take till late Saturday night to staff the nursery for Sunday morning. Most of the time we would just do it as no one else was available. Needless to day, if one were 'burned out' in this area, it would be us.

But, a friend with a long list questions on various topics caught me off guard with the nursery question so I said yes. Back at it again, after many years!

I wonder how many times the Lord has had to staff the nursery for me. You see, I often make immature decisions and should have long outgrown the need for such intensive supervision.

It isn't a glamour job is it? Watching me make stupid decisions daily. An older adult who should know better.

I wonder if the Holy Trinity gets in a huddle every day and says, 'OK, who's turn is it to watch him today?' Or, can't we just have the angels do it?

Is this God's response? Of course not. But, it could be.

He loves me and watches over me. He is ever mindful of our immaturity.

So, when I read this passage and it talks of always loving others and being motivated by that charge, guess we should look to Christ as our role model.
