In the 2 Timothy verse Paul is explaining to TImothy that it is the duty of all Christians to pass on what we have, the gift of salvation, so that they in turn can share the good news of the Gospel. In Mark 1:17 Christ calls out to his disciples and tells them I will make you better men. I will show you the way to bring yourselves and others closer to God.
This is the beginning of discipleship. It is our duty to share the great gift of salvation with everyone we come into contact with in our daily lives. This is part of the The Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18-20
"God authorized and commanded Me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, making them by baptism in the threefold name; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all i have commanded you. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age."
