Romans 1:17 - Who Needs A Good Self Image When I'm Right with God?
We've finally arrived at one of the most powerful verses in the entire book of Romans. There have been and continue to be huge debates on exactly how to translate it, what it means, etc. Here's just a few observations.
Paul clearly says that "IN the Gospel a righteousness from God is revealed." I wonder how many modern believes have any idea as to what that might be or mean? I think that as you begin to grasp some of this, you can begin to move away from worldly concerns about self-image, etc. If I understand that I have a righteous standing before Almighty God, because of what Jesus did for me on the cross, and that's mine by grace through faith - WOW!
Who needs to play around with self image when instead you can meditate on and live in the righteous image GOD has of YOU because of CHRIST?!?
Paul makes it clear that this righteousness isn't by works, and CAN'T come that way - it's all the way by faith!
That being true then it's only logical that those who have been gifted this righteousness by Jesus would live by faith. It's faith in God's grace bought by Christ on the Cross that got me here right? So why would I ever want to base my life on anything else?
Sadly, I don't think most modern Christians have ANY idea of the richness of this verse or book, nor have they any idea of how to live in the riches Christ alone bestows upon us.
