The context of Leviticus gets lost on me from time to time. It's very hard for me to related to all these animal sacrifices. But as I read through Leviticus 8 today, I find myself in awe of all the consecrations and offerings. I find my thoughts drifting to the creation of sacred and holy spaces.
I'm not talking about physical locations though. I'm talking about creating sacred spaces in our lives for God. I'm talking about setting aside time that belongs solely to me and God. I don't know about you, but many a time I have such difficulty in clearing my mind and getting all the competing pulls on my life to be silent long enough to focus on God. It's almost like I've got spiritual ADD. I find that it takes concerted effort on my part to create and keep sacred space in my life. It is a constant challenge.
Lord, help me to find ways amidst my hectic life to create sacred spaces. Help me to place you first, to not always be so focused on me. Help me to remember that I am not the center of the universe and that everything I have, everything I am, and everything I do can be an offering to you; a Romans 12 "living sacrifice".
