No Stopping-Get Going
Can you fathom it?
Moses is dead. Get Going.
That's it. Joshua has been a faithful and efficient second-in-command. Great leaders have always been great followers first. And, as a dedicated follower I bet Joshua would instinctively want to honor Moses by stopping, pausing, resting, mourning. Yet, God's direction is clear: get going.
Of course, the timeline could be accelerated and there may have been more than enough time to follow tradition in this story. But, nevertheless, the story picks up with God tapping Joshua and sending him on that part of the adventure he would lead. God's purposes prevail before during and after death. Even death of one so significant as Moses.
This inspires me somehow today; God's purposes are magnificent, bold, and full of momentum. This part--the part I am carrying and fulfilling--is just that: a part! God's purposes began before my life, are operational during my life, and will prevail after my life on earth is over.
Can you fathom it?
No?
Get going then.
