Our Darkened Hearts

Paul builds on his last verse by saying that although they knew God, they didn't act like it, and the end result of their forsaking two (at the very least) of the spiritual disciplines was their thinking became futile and their hearts darkened.

This got me to thinking. Isn't it interesting that out of all the practices he could have mentioned them forsaking, he chose glorifying and thanking God. Makes you wonder why doesn't it? Could it be that these things are far more important than they are usually given credit for?

I think so.

I also wonder if there isn't a lesson here for we Christians, who just love to talk about "having a personal relationship with God," all the while thinking, believing and acting in ways that are decidedly not Christian.

Could it be that our thinking is darkened by our culture, and our hearts darkened because we aren't giving God the glory he deserves and thanks we ought to be offering up to him?

I'm not suggesting these two things are some kind of a "magic bullet" that will solve all our issues with having a Christian world view. But I do think it would be a big help to keeping our minds Christ Centered. Perhaps it would help us be more open and discerning about what actually gives God glory and what doesn't.

At any rate it couldn't hurt!
