False Claims & Exchange

I know that verse 22 is written in a very specific context, but that doesn't stop it from also being an unchanging principle of living that we all ought to pay attention too. When you claim to be wise it's usually not very long before you wind up playing the fool! That's something I know I need to remember a lot more often than I do.

In this particular case their foolishness showed up in their exchanging the glory of God for images of things that God had created. Idols in other words.

Today, all over the world, people are still worshiping physical idols, while almost all of the rest of us are worshiping the idols of our hearts!

It's very dangerous to only look at this passage as something that's about some other people who lived a long time ago. It's all that of course, but far more! Because every single one of us do exactly the same thing, and we do it nearly every day of our lives!

Reading these verses makes me want to do a far better job of focusing on the real, eternal God, not all the made up ones.
