The Teacher Gets Upset

Jesus is not very pleased with His students performance. This man was in desperate need of their help. A demon, and a very nasty one at that, was oppressing his son. He was at his ropes end.

He must have heard that Jesus' disciples where able to cast out demons. Jesus gave them authority to do so as we read in Matthew 10. They cast out demons and healed the sick and preached the Gospel. But now, not one of them could help this man's son. What went wrong? Did Jesus take back the authority over the enemy?

Jesus' reaction gives us the answer. He expected them to continue working in the power and authority He gave them. He rebukes them in the strongest terms, calling them "faithless and perverse"! I imagine he said this with a little gusto. And then He adds a little sarcasm to boot..."How long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you?". Then He does what they should have...He rebukes the demon and casts it out. He tells His students their unbeliefstopped them from casting out the demon. We cannot be moved by what we see; whether it's a seizure or yelling or fits. It is the Word that must move us.

It is faith that casts out the demon. It is faith that heals the sick. It is faith that receives salvation. It is faith that pleases the Master! (Hebrews 11:6)

We need to be close to the Master, know His will and not be moved by anything but His Word!
