Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord
A lot is happening in 1 Samuel 10:25. Samuel is stating the rights and duties of a king, found in Deut. 17:16-20.
Deut 17:18 states that "And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law.." this evidentally states a lot regaring the heart of a king while he is on the throne that the Lord has placed him on.
He needed to write the law in his own hand so that it no longer becomes scribbles on a page, but a spoken reality to him. Although a king sits on a throne, he still answers to the Eternal King, Yahweh. God had the king write it in his own hand to remind him of who he is, where he came from, and who TRULY sits on the throne.
Deut. 17:19 refers to the humility that would surface after doing such things. and in v.20 it speaks of the the prosperity that humility would bring.
Therefore, in 1 Samuel 10:25, Samuel is writing these laws out before Saul, as a reminder of whence he came, and the dangers of pride.
It is a lesson we all might learn. Many people ask "how do I stay humble?" Just as kings read and reread the law they were to abide by, we need to be in the Word daily, so that we do not forget God's imminent Glory from where WE came.
The most important thing to God is His Glory.
We dare not rob Him of that.
