He hears our cries; He sees our tears!
King Hezekiah was really sick and pretty sure he might die from his ailment. To make matters worse, the prophet Isaiah comes to visit him to confirm that God said that he would, indeed, die and that he should start getting his affairs in order. Bummer. How devastating. Then Isaiah turns to go, and King Hezekiah breaks down and pleads with his God. Scripture says that he wept bitterly.....no kidding.... I would too.
And before Isaiah had even left the palace....God speaks to the prophet again and says...
"Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of my people. Tell him, `This is what the Lord , the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the Lord .6 I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my own honor and for the sake of my servant David.'"
Let's not even get into the fact that King Hezekiah was so wanting this healing that he asked for proof on the fact that he would get well....and that within that same time period he would sin deeply and end up setting up Israel for ultimate disaster....our biblical ancestors were not perfect; they were deeply flawed like all of us....
But the main encouragement that I got from this scripture is that God hears our cries; He sees our tears.
Thank you Jesus, for giving up Your life in anticipation of our cries and our tears to be saved. We clearly needed saving from permanent death and You provided the opportunity for life through paying for our sins on the cross and rising again. Thank you for seeing our tears...for hearing our daily cry for Your help in navigating through this not-so-easy life.
