The Rewards of Fasting

What then is this reward from prayer and fasting? Jesus promises a reward in prayer (verse 6) and now a reward in fasting (verse 18). We must be careful not to turn these verses into some kind of reward formula to get what we are asking for. First we need to understand what has already been given to us in the gift of Christ. Read Ephesians 1 and see the fullness and completeness of what has been done for us through Christ! This starting point challenges us to think about what could possibly be added as a reward to what has already been given. The best reward that any human can get from prayer and fasting is a fully understanding of what has already been given in Christ - which is everything! The challenge for us to wrestle with our new spiritual reality of supply in light of our physical existence in which our flesh spends a great deal of time whining and complaining.  Our rewards from prayer and fasting are simply to grow in our experience of the spiritual realities that are real only through Jesus. These reward dramatically change our experience in the physical, giving us strength during struggles and supply of all that it needed to live in accordance God's will - 2 Corinthians 9:8
