An Intuitive Paradox
Solomon said this, of course, just moments after a cloud of smoke—“the glory of the LORD”—had filled that same temple. In the consecration of the temple, Solomon was giving voice to an intuitive paradox of the Jewish faith: An unapproachable God chooses to abide with his people. . . . Even as Solomon is acknowledging the absurdity of giving God a home, we witness God entering the temple because God cares about his creation—enough to get his feet dirty as he enters into our existence, taking on the challenges of being a God to a people who are often too caught up in themselves to pay attention to him.
