Going to the standard
Paul goes to the source for validation of who he is, decisions he has made, and plans that have been changed. It appears that he is making the point that we are not the center of the universe with God is on the edges. Instead God is the center and all things are measured by His character and purposes. So for those that were looking at Paul's actions, they should consider if his actions line up with God's character first before condemning him for changing his plans. His plans changed because of God's character, his grace. Paul suvived suffering with his faith in tact because of God's grace. As the passage continues Paul is modeling grace to the Corinthians and asking them to reflect this to the one that offend Paul.
