Remember the who.

I've been reading some contributions from others concerning this verse. A lot of people are pointing to this verse and saying "Look!! We lack nothing! God has given us everything we need." I want to remind us that Paul is not writing to one person like he does in his letters to Philemon, Timothy and Titus. Paul is writing to a church. He is saying to the church "you don't lack any spiritual gifts." I think this is very important to understand. We are called as individuals to tell the world about Christ. God has gifted each of us in various ways which means how we fulfill that mission may vary according to our gifts and talents. Frankly, what you are able to do I may not be able to do, but together we may be able to do more than either of us could do separately. This is just another testimony to the fact that God has created us as social beings who NEED community.

On the other hand, if we don't devote ourselves to a body of Christ we are withholding our gifts and talents and contributing to the unhealthiness of a body. Everyone needs to be an active part of a body of Christ.
