Really is this our God?
In this section of the OT... there is a familiar description of our God for the people who were listening to Balaam during this prophecy. He describes God having the strength and terror of a wild bull. He describes God has being a destroyer of enemy nations... as a crusher of bones and a piercer of bodies (not in the way we think of it today)!
Personally, I think this is a very unfamiliar picture for many people of faith today! However, the scriptures and our faith rests on the reality that God is unchanging! He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
So, the question that remains as we read these kinds of accounts and descriptions of our God that we worship as Christ followers today is... "How do we reconcile and connect our understandings of God with the OT literature?"
It is important that we don't forget the passion and zeal of God when it comes to holiness and righteousness or we will eventually wind up minimizing an important part of WHO God is according to His very own WORD. Our God is passionate and zealous and a constant protector, provider, and promoter of His people... of the ones He has called out of darkness and into relationship.
Personally, I am very okay with this side of our God's nature... are you?
