Discover Truth

If you give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day; teach him to hownto fish and you'll feed him for a lifetime. Tonight I am going to teach you to fish for the rest of your life.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:1, 2 ESV)
A. Understand the POWER of God's truth.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. (Psalm 1:3 ESV)
There is never a dry spell because there is a constant flow of water. That is exactly how it is for the man of God. You will have roots and fruits!
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Joshua 1:8 ESV)
B. Choose to DELIGHT in God's truth.
Matthew 7:24-27 version of: this is your brain; this is your brain on drugs.
Psalm 1 is like that: see the next three verses:
The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. (Psalm 1:4-6 ESV)
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word. (Psalm 119:15, 16 ESV)
How to live a life that delights in God's truth...
Get ready:
1. Remember WHY YOU ARE READING THE BIBLE (you're not reading to get smarter; you're reading to get to know God better)
2. Have a PLAN (how would you describe the 66 books of the Bible to someone?)
3. Set a GOAL - specific, measurable, and attainable (S.A.M.)
Go:
1. UNDERSTAND IT (What does it say? - Observe)
2. THINK ABOUT IT (What does it mean? - Interpret)
3. APPLY IT (What does it mean for me? - Apply)
Ask yourself and write out in a sentence each day:
What is the Bible saying?
What is the Bible asking me to do?
You will not grow in your relationship with Jesus unless you get this discipline in your life. No amount of church attendance, sincerity, JOY FM, or Chris Tomlin can make up for this discipline.
