The Awful Judgment of God
Paul continues to talk about a subject that we don't want him too - God's Judgment! He will continue to do this for a while too. Apparently and in spite of how we approach sharing the Gospel today, Paul thinks it's important to explain that God is holy, he does punish sin, and here's a short look at how he'll do it.
In this section you'll note again the concept of God's love holding back his judgment for a long time. Giving us time to repent and be forgiven. But when the Day finally comes, He pours it all out on us, and we receive - IN FULL - the just punishment for all our sins.
In this regard Paul says the Jewish advantage two fold. They get judged first, and they get blessed first!
I'm sure they could live without the first part of that - but there it is.
Note also that Paul specifically mentions being self-seeking and rejecting the truth and following evil as things that will bring us under the horrible wrath of God.
How do we stack up to that? Our culture, and much of the church today, is obsessed with self. We reject truth when it makes us uncomfortable (like teaching on God's wrath) and we follow evil when it makes us feel good.
Surely, the wrath of God will come upon our culture too, unless we repent.
