Love and Leaders

I have been so caught up in leading sometimes that I forgot why I started to lead at all. Days and weeks might pass without any concentrated thought on why I do what I do. I confess this because I know there are others out there who are doing the same. We get caught up in the trends and activities of others and lose connection with what makes us unique, God sent, and truly powerful.

If I have learned anything from the Bible as it relates to my role as a pastor it is this: I should always lead from a foundation of love. It is central to the mission of our God, to love. He loved us so much, if you love me...you will love others, love is how others will know who we truly are.

Sadly though, many of God's leaders are loveless. We have diluted the purpose of our call. We serve out of compulsion, fear, or selfish motives. The basis for our actions is no longer love...eventually the actions of our life will betray the brokenness of our heart. Pastors, Christians, brothers and sisters, serve and lead from an overflow of love. Get lost in God's love for you, His love for others, and may it fill you to bursting with action for His sake. Shed the weight of self-serving leadership and enjoy the freedom of love based leadership. Stop demanding that people follow you and teach others how to loving follow Jesus in a recklessly passionate manner.
