Response of Levites to the Call
Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, “Who is on the Lord’s side?” Then the Levites responded to the call and stood on the Lord’s side (Ex.32:26). The other 11 tribes did not choose to stand on the Lord’s side. There is a choice. When it comes right down to it, who is really on the Lord’s side? Levi had to take a stand against his own brethren.
Sometimes when we are called upon to make a decision
between following Christ and being with the brethren,
by the grace of God, we must make the right decision to
side with Christ. If we want to be everyone’s friend, we will
never make it to Zion. When Israel finally captured Mount
Zion many years later, it was mainly the tribe of Levi who
dwelt there.
As we have stated before, concerning the journey—although it was a geographical journey from Egypt into the Promised Land and on to Zion, it is a pattern and type of the journey each of us must take in our Christian life. As leaders, we will be responsible for bringing our churches unto Zion. Therefore, it is not merely an academic study but a way of life.
