Salty Salt

Matthew 5:13-16

This passage isn't about turning away from God. It's about complacency versus effectiveness.

Salt is useful because it is salty. Light is useful because it lights up the dark. They are effective for their intended purposes. As followers of Christ, we are also USEFUL to the Kingdom. Jesus, in essence, is saying that an ineffective follower is really good for nothing. It means that we allow God to shape us and lead us into HIS purposes as we live our lives daily so that we are effective for the Kingdom.

Salt doesn't become unsalty. Why? Because it is salt. In the same way, if we are true FOLLOWERS of Christ we won't stop following. We won't stop BEING like Christ. Oh, we won't be perfect, but in our weakness HE will demonstrate strength. In our willingness, HE will produce good fruit. And in our pursuit, HE will develop character.

Why? So that OTHERS will see and be drawn to Him. So that others will see our actions (which are an overflow of our heart) and give God the credit!
