Today’s teaching is going to look at inappropriate responses to God’s incredible Love.
Sometimes looking at what something is NOT, you learn more about what something IS.
Looking at how NOT to respond we can learn HOW to respond.

Examine yourselves …
Luke 8:
Parable of the sower …
Sowing the word by the WAYSIDE – trampled
Sowing the word by the ROCKS – withered
Sowing the word by the THORNS – choked
Sowing the word by the GOOD SOIL – fruit producing
Don’t just assume that you are good soil … examine yourselves by the word, not compared to others
Let’s look at a few ways of how NOT to respond … Bible calls this a lukewarm response.
Lukewarm Christians attend church because it’s expected of them
Isaiah 29:13 … with their mouths and lips they honor me, but their hearts are far from me.
Lukewarm Christians give based upon their standard of living
Luke 21:1-4 … widow has given more then all the others … she gave all she had
Lukewarm Christians choose what is popular over what is right
Math 23:5-7 … everything they do is done for men to see … seat of honor, be called Rabi
Lukewarm Christians don’t want to be saved from their sin, but the penalty of their sin
Rom 6:1-2 … shall we go on sinning so that Grace can increase ? We died to sin …
Lukewarm Christians are moved more by the stories of missionaries then the great commission
Jam 1:22 … don’t just listen to God’s Word like the deceived, do what it says
Lukewarm Christians don’t share their faith for fear of rejection
Math 10:32-33 … acknowledges me before men and I will acknowledge you before my father
Lukewarm Christians measure their morality by the world’s standard
Luke 18:11-12 … the Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself, comparing with thieves etc
Lukewarm Christians give Jesus a part of their lives, not full control
Luke 9:57-62 … Jesus: follow me … first bury my father, say good bye to family
Lukewarm Christians love God, but not with all of their heart, soul and strength
Math 22:37-38 … love God, soul mind & strength … this is the greatest commandment
Lukewarm Christians love others, but not as much as they love themselves
Math 5:43-47 … don’t love as the world loves, love as I love …
Lukewarm Christians serve God, but limit how much time, money and energy they’re willing to give
Luke 18:21-25 … rich young ruler kept all commandments, but could not give ‘everything’
Lukewarm Christians think about life on earth more then eternity in heaven
Phil 3:18-20 … don’t live as enemies of the cross if your citizenship is in heaven
Lukewarm Christians appreciate luxuries but are motivated by a passionate generosity
Math 25:34, 40 … you blessed, what you have done to the least, you have done unto me
Lukewarm Christians do whatever necessary to keep themselves from feeling guilty
Math 13:44-46 … the kingdom is like a hidden treasure, so sell everything to buy it
Lukewarm Christians continually play it safe
1 Tim 6:17-18 … command the rich to put their trust in God, be generous, willing to share
Lukewarm Christians don’t live by faith, but calculated risks
Heb 11:6 … without faith it is impossible to please God
Lukewarm Christians may not drink, swear or smoke, but don’t differ much from avrg unbeliever
Math 23:25-28 … outside you look like white washed tombs, inside dead man’s bones
Christians with the following qualities will more then likely not become lukewarm:
Lovers
Luke 6:32-35 … loving those who love you, what does it credit you
Risk takers
John 3:30 … He must increase, I must decrease
Friends to all
1 Tim 6:6-13 … Godliness with contentment is great gain
Humble
Jam 4:10 … humble yourself before the Lord and HE will lift you up
Serving
John 15:8 … my father is glorified when you bear much fruit as disciples
Givers
Jam 2:14-26 … faith without works is dead … be warmed, be clothed
Rooted
Psalm 1:3 … being planted be the rivers of water, bringing forth his fruit in his season
Dedicated
James 1:2-4 … count it all joy when you fall into temptation
