When was the last time you sang to me?
Ever since I've stumbled across these verses in Amos a while back, I've found myself coming back to them over and over again. I feel that the verses of Amos 5:21-24 paints a nice picture of most of us in the North American church, if not in all the rest of the world. Those of us who are hypocrites at least. We sing our songs of praise to God, but it's only noise to Him if we aren't living lives that reflect our beliefs. If we aren't totally "all in" for Christ. As an example, in Luke 11:42 Jesus is telling the Pharisees that even though they tithe and such, they "neglect JUSTICE and the LOVE OF GOD." so you could give, let's say, $1,000,000 to the church every Sunday. But if you don't live your lives giving justice to those who need it or telling others about the love of God, then quite frankly God doesn't care. If we don't live righteous lives, than our worship is nothing but noise. Only when we begin to live fully for Christ and start giving justice to the poor and oppressed and others less fortunate in this world, then will our worship really mean something. Then will we sing to God. I think back to the times not so long ago that I used to come before God with my noise. When I went to the conferences and conventions where only a few of us sang a song of melodious worship to the King of Kings while the rest of us drowned them out with all our clamor. The times I would put my tithe into the offering so someone else could use it to further the Kingdom rather than me. When was the last time you sang to God?
