Um, Thanks God. I think.

This is an example of the willingness of God to listen to our prayers. Sometimes we still get something undesired, but we cannot say that God doesn't listen. It's interesting how we expect God to be like a genie in a bottle or a vending machine... we ask for this, and this comes out. But God gives to us according to His will, not our own. That may seem like retreating from the absolute promise Jesus gives us in John 16:23: "In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name." But I believe that's the part of prayer that changes us, and makes us closer to what he is desiring from us. Sounds unfair? Then maybe you should continue following the god you've unknowingly created.
Psalm 37:4 says "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." But I used to read that wrong... I used to think that meant I get whatever I want if I'm a good boy. But no, it's if I've aligned myself to God's desires, I delight in the Lord, and the things that bring glory to Him, give joy to me. Go live a life as God's created one to do good works and enact His will here on earth (Eph 2:10).
