Importance of Honoring Parents
This is such a key verse in how important it is to honor our parents. They may not have been perfect but for the sake of their position in our lives they are worthy of our honor. When we insult them or dishonor them then we our lives will suffer or as the verse says our light will be snuffed out in total darkness.
This is simular to the verse in Exodus 21:17 where the offending child is given the death penalty for cursing their mother or father. God takes it seriously how we treat, forgive and honor our parents. It may be one of the hardest things in the world but please forgive and reconcile with your parents and begin to give them the honor that belongs to them even if you dont feel they deserve it.
