No People
I read this last night and thought it was kind of funny. Backstory: God's people are divided into Judah and Israel with a king over each. The one over Judah is a guy named Jehoshaphat and he follows God. The one over Israel is named Ahab. He really doesn't follow God. The two of these kings unite together and are debating whether they should go into battle with some other nations. Jehoshaphat thought it would be good to inquire of God to see if this was the right decision. Ahab gets his 400 prophets, which are not prophets of God and they tell them that he should go to battle.
Then Jehoshaphat basically asks if Ahab has any real prophets, prophets of the Lord. Ahab say, "well I have one, Micaiah, but he always speaks bad of me, so I don't like him... basically, I don't listen to him." I laughed when I read this part. But as I went down to bed last night, I began to think more about.
In all seriousness, I think we can be like Ahab. We can have a whole bunch of "yes people". Ahab had 400 of them. They were people that were all saying nice things, things in agreement with Ahab. But Ahab shut out his only "no people", Micaiah.
This begs a question for me: Do I have any Micaiah? Do I have any "no people"? People who will tell me like it is, without a worry that they are going to offend me? Have I shut up or shut out these kinds of people? It's my belief that we need these kinds of people. These people can often speak more truth and wisdom than those who are our "yes people."
We need Micaiah's, we need "no people."
