The gospel of Mark is the shortest of the four gospels, and filled with action rather than extra descriptions or philosophy. Mark gets to the point quick and keeps things moving!
Jesus was baptized, sent to the desert and tempted. If you want to see how He was tempted, you must look in another gospel. In the calling of the first disciples, he starts out with "The time is now!" and calls men not to listen, not to debate, but "Come, follow Me!" Such a call to action was effective - they did.
His teaching and driving out of demons sets up His authority. We see immediately that this Jesus of Nazareth is very special. Even evil spirits obey Him and flee. News spread quickly. Then Mark jumps right into what he does - heals, prays, heals some more. Notice the phrases "As soon as...", "Very early in the morning...", "While it was yet dark...", "Without delay...", "Immediately..."
Amazing! 30 years things are quiet, then the time is right, and Jesus moves and acts with purpose.
He calls us too, "Come, follow me!" What is our response? Will we too be men and women of action, of prayer, of healing?
