The Danger Zone

Observation
Jesus was about to face His greatest trial and He discerned that, but those closest to him were unaware. He told them "Stay alert, be in prayer, so you don't enter the danger zone without even knowing it." How often are we on the edge of a crisis, about to face a major trial and didn't even know it? We are in a spiritual battle and often sleeping on the job instead of keeping watch and preparing for the fight. "Part of you is eager, ready for anything in God; but another part is as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire." Even when I am most enthusiastic about God and worshiping Him, thinking about Him and reading His Word...I can still be spiritually sleeping and caught off guard! The disciples missed out on an opportunity to cover Jesus and hold Him up during this difficult trial - they slept through the hour of battle and left Him to fight on His own. Thank God He still won the battle and finished victoriously. This is a lesson we all need to learn as believers - Are we covering each other, praying for each other, alert and watching for the enemy, preparing for spiritual battle?
Application
Today I examine my own life... Yes, I love God with all my heart and surrender my life to Him daily. Yet, I find that I am sleeping at times and off my guard spiritually. A recent trial that I have gone through for the last few years hit me like a ton of bricks. At times I felt alone, wondering if I could make it. Yes, I prayed and got around other believers which kept me going, but looking back I now realize that I was not prepared for this battle. I didn't see it coming. I didn't expect it. I wasn't watching for it. There were many casualties and some could have been avoided. All I can do now is learn from this experience and stay alert, be prepared and pray...
Prayer
Father, Forgive me for falling asleep on the job spiritually! Help me to keep watch for the attacks and to be ready for the spiritual battles that I must face. Help me to be on guard for my fellow believers and to watch their back. Bring others along side me who will cover me as well. Strengthen me and prepare me for victory. I fully expect to overcome with You! Thank you for alerting me and giving me the discernment to avoid unnecessary battles and to face the battles that I need to win in order to finish the work You have called me to...
