Consider the Context
Scot McKnight wrote a book called The Blue Parakeet which holds the purpose of retuning the way we read the Bible. The first half of the book is used to establish the method and then the second half is provided as an example. The example he uses is that of women's roles in ministry (controversial enough to prove a point, but not enough to get him shot... smart move). I strongly suggest you check it out if you are interested in all at reading and teaching in culturally relevant ways and striving for theological accuracy.
