Comment on the Gap theory


So, I might be miss understanding the previous article about the Gap Theory but it seems to me that It is discussing plants, animals, fossils etc. that would have been destroyed during this event that would have to take place to prove the gap theory therefore not being able to prove the expanse of time. However, when I read the first two verses of Genesis I don't see anything about God creating living creatures yet, only the Heavens and the Earth. Therefore if there was some expanse of time we wouldn't know what it was since there were no creatures on the earth yet to leave a fossil trail.

When I read verse 2 I take this to mean that the earth was not yet populated, there was no light, no land, there was no day and night...therefore still an unfinished piece of work. Over the following days God took the unfinished piece of work that was described in verse 2 and made it whole. But even this didn't satisfy him so he created man in his image take care of the things he had created.
