Some of the believers at Thessalonica had stopped working for a living because they expected Jesus’ immediate return. They thought that since Jesus would return immediately, they could quit working their jobs and not serve Jesus by serving others. This created tension with other believers who now had additional responsibilities. On the other hand, Christians today often get too focused on jobs & self-gratification, forgetting that Jesus will return soon. In this portion of the letter, Paul gives practical advice on how to find balance and boundaries so that we can work to advance God's kingdom while we wait for Jesus' return. As we consider this final section of Paul's letter, we realize that we are Jesus' resources.
